| The new MWF Ge Smartwater™ Water Filters replace the GWF, FXRC, MXRC and HWF water filters. The MWF water filter is also used on Kenmore refrigerators. Kenmore models where the model number begins with "363" are likely to use this filter. The MWF water filter replaces Kenmore part numbers 9905, 469905, & 46-9905. Replaces GE part numbers GWF, GWF01, GWF06, FXRC, FXRT, MXRC, HXRT, & WR97X10006. Features of the MWF Smartwater™ Filter:

The new MWF GE Smartwater™ water filter replaces GWF, GWF01, GWF06, MXRC, HXRT, FXRT, HWF, and FXRC. Replaces Sears part numbers 9905 and 46-9905. GWF was designed to work with the high pressure water system included in the 2001 GE SmartWater™ refrigerators. GE recommeds the use of only the GWF in its high pressure water system refrigerators. However, GWF is backward compatible with all other GE SmartWater refrigerators prior to 2001 and GE Water by Culligan refrigerators. GWF has the same easy do-it-yourself installation as the FXRC.

This adapter is necessary when replacing the silver Culligan type filters (FXRC, HXRT, FXRT, MXRC). It is reusable.
The MWF water filter adapter is still required when replacing the the FXRC, MXRC, HXRT, & FXRT. These filters are easily recognized by their aluminum outer shell. In other words if you have:

To replace this filter, you'll need to use the adapter. There are a few rare cases where the MWF + adapter doesn't fit well (the culligan filter was shorter), but 99% of the time there is no problem.
