There's nothing more frustrating than waking up to find the carpet wet in the room behind the wall where the refrigerator sits. Or worse, the laminate floor buckling! Refrigerator water valves are under constant pressure and over time they can develop little leaks that can turn into big problems. They are very basic valves though. Each solenoid on a refrigerator water valve has only two positions: all the way open and all the way closed. The solenoid coils lift a plunger that allows water through when voltage is sent to them. One side is usually for the ice maker and the other is for water through the door (if it is a double solenoid valve). Lately, manufacturers have been messing with the simple design we believe should be adhered to by adding more solenoids, valve bodies and controls. This just introduces more places that can fail in the water's path. Every solenoid can burn out or get stuck and every valve body can develop pin hole leaks.
