Sometimes it's amazing to think how a tiny and seemingly inconsequential oven door gasket can stand in the way of the heat an oven produces while cooking and especially while in self-cleaning mode! But these little heat barriers do their job to help the oven keep a more even temperature and to keep the kitchen from becoming a sauna. If the seal is gone (or bad), heat will flow out into the kitchen and the oven elements will have to stay on longer and burn more energy.
